Well, both characters were in a huge rush... Sometimes people who are walking towards each other step out of the way of the other person to be polite (or at least where I live), but there's the rare chance they accidentally step in the same direction, i.e. getting in each other's way!
In this movie, the two characters coincidentally do that until they finally step in different directions.
